Gladys passed away peacefully on November 4, 2021 at the age of 85 at Little Mountain Place. On that day, a magnificent double rainbow stretched across the skies of Vancouver.
She was born on November 2, 1936 in Victoria, B.C. to Roy Sing and Rose Sam. This was during the Great Depression which later followed by the Second World War. These stressful times lead to a rather challenging youth. When her education was concluded at Grade 8, she helped the family farm and grocery store. Gladys was always grateful for the support of her family.
In 1971, she met her husband Bill at a party in Duncan, B.C. Together, they moved to Vancouver, B.C. and had 1 child, Lena. She briefly worked at the Department of Fisheries before becoming a full-time homemaker. She loved to keep the house clean and visit Chinatown for fried chicken.
Gladys spent her later years at Little Mountain Place. Her caregivers provided remarkable care and compassion. This was the happiest and freest part of her life. She made new friendships and enjoyed sharing stories of her grandchildren. Small pleasures such as a game of bingo and lunch outings brought considerable joy to her. Gladys was always gracious to her caregivers and friends.
Gladys was predeceased by her father Roy and mother Rose; brother Alan; and husband Bill. Gladys is survived by her sisters Florence and Liz; brother Ray; daughter Lena; grandchildren Emma and Isabelle.
A funeral service will be held at 1pm, on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Ocean View Funeral Home and Burial Park, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby, BC, V5J 1A4.
