It is with profound sadness we announce the loss of our Dear Mother, Helen Grace Anderson of Penticton, BC on Dec. 19th, 2022. Surrounded by all her loved ones in spirit and in the loving presence of her sons, Paul and Daryl as she peacefully passed.
She will be forever missed by her children Karen (Tim) Cousins, Larry (Jill) Crichton, Paul (Janice) Leech, Daryl (Barb) Anderson, Sharon (Lorne) Sinclair, and Lea Anderson. As well her loving 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Mom was born on January 5th, 1935 in Langenburg, Saskatchewan to the proud and loving parents Rose and Otto Tiefisher. In 1942 when Mom was 7 years old the family moved to Vancouver, BC where they purchased their much loved family home. This home would become the nucleus for so many generations to come with the matriarchs Rose and Otto providing everyone with unconditional love and lasting memories.
As they settled into their new life, Mom was a much loved little sister to Elva (Lewis), and an older sister to her brother Roy (Lynn). Over their many years, they would remain forever best friends, confidantes and soulmates, sharing in the love of their parents and their home.
Some years later younger brother Gordon (Claudia) and little Dennis (predeceased at age 6) arrived to share in the family's love and devotion to one another. Mom was a natural in helping to care for her younger brothers and assisting her mother, Rose in every aspect of running the family home.
Perhaps it was during these years that Mom recognized the value of hard work, as this attribute would be one of her many life long strengths. She was an exemplary student, a soloist in the senior high school choir, an avid softball player, a yo-yo champion (winning many contests) and a beauty pageant winner at age 16.
Mom's first full time employment was as a bookkeeper with the T. Eaton Co. This is when her astounding ability to remember numbers first appeared. It came as no surprise that Mom would become a gifted card player, always playing the role of banker in her various card and board games with friends and family.
Mom moved to Penticton at age 57 and would make this her home for over 30 years. There she found a quiet, caring community with everything close by. At the age of 74 Mom officially retired from the Penticton Canadian Tire Store. In total, she had been a cashier for over 50 years.
Despite her many years living away, Mom was a frequent visitor to her children residing in the Lower Mainland. During these visits, Mom was joyfully included in the many Christmases, Birthdays, Weddings, Anniversaries, Graduations and all special occasions.
We also had many happy times while visiting mom in her Penticton home, often having fun trips to the lake, the casino, shopping trips to Kelowna, and dinner out at the White Spot. These very special times will be so sadly missed.
The loss of our Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Auntie and much loved Friend has left all of us with feelings of sincere grief and loss. We will look back and remember the happiness and joy we all felt in the presence of our Beloved Helen Grace.
Please join us in celebrating Mom's life on January 14th, 2023 at Ocean View Funeral Home, Burnaby BC at 1:00 pm.
