Isamu (Sam) Hori, 88, of Burnaby, British Columbia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 8. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Yonezo and Mika, his brother, Mitsuru, and several spoiled dogs.
Sam was truly a renaissance man who could fix anything and never threw away anything that could be repaired, reused or repurposed. A Red Seal mechanic, welder and auto body restorer, he owned and operated Douglas Auto Service for 35 years with his brother and dad. He was a hard-working man but in his “spare time” and in his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, doing home maintenance, helping his wife with her art projects, and spending time with his family.
Sam is survived by his wife and best friend, Masako; his sister, Aiko Sutherland; Sam was extremely loving and proud of his three daughters, Nancy Berke (Norm), Kathy Hori (Mike) and Grace Morissette (Doug), as well as his grandchildren, Sara and Erin, and great-grandchildren, Carrera and Dominick.
Thanks are extended to staff at Harmony Court for their care over the past three years.
A Memorial Service to remember and celebrate Sam’s life will take place on Saturday, October 22 at 1:30pm in the chapel at Forest Lawn (3789 Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby). The family respectfully requests no flowers or koden. Instead, memorial donations can be made in Isamu’s name to the Alzheimer’s Society of B.C. or the charity of your choice; you may honour Sam by spending time with your loved ones and doing something nice for someone. Dad - you did a fine job and your work here is done.
