October 2, 1934 - January 31, 2015
With deepest sorrow we announce the passing of Janet after a short illness. Born in Prince Rupert, BC, Janet came to Vancouver at age twelve and graduated from King Edward High School and Normal School before embarking on a teaching career in Prince Rupert, Nanaimo, Kelowna, North Vancouver and finally Burnaby, where she taught for thirty years.
Being a teacher brought Janet a great sense of joy and achievement. Janet had a wonderful sense of humour, a ready smile and a fondness for laughter, and was never at a loss for conversation. She is survived by Doug, her loving husband of over fifty-six years, son Dan, daughter Susan Brandi, grandson Jordan -- her pride and joy -- and sisters Peggy Lee, Betty Joe (Ronald), sisters-in-law Barbara Dawnne Blaker and Brenda Wong, numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends including former teaching colleagues and students. We will miss her deeply.
We are grateful to the staff of Burnaby General Hospital and Surrey Memorial Hospital, especially the ICU and nurse Ashli, who helped Janet through her final days. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on February 20 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home (3789 Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby). In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Burnaby Retired Teachers Scholarship Fund (c/o 7787 Elwell St., Burnaby, BC V5E 1M1) or to the Salvation Army would be appreciated.
