Hello Patrick, 

I was filled with great sadness hearing about Kathie’s passing, her life had been tragically altered here on Earth.

However, you were all given the opportunity to give Kathie the care and love she so desired in her time of need… this is an incredible honor.

Kathie’s spirit will live on in your 3 amazing sons. These sad feelings will always be just one thought away, but that’s okay.

 

Both my parents had a great love for your family, and your boys showed them great love and kindness back.

Nicholas, Julien & Stephano will be sharing Kathie’s spirit with everyone they meet.

Dear family,

I’ve no words to express what i fell. I got totally frozen when i saw the Stephan’s post on Facebook about the terrible new.

I would like to share with all of you the experience i lived when i visited Vancouver in 2008. The first impression was great. I still remember the warm welcome, receiving me in the main entrance of the house with a big smile.
I can’t forget the long conversations we had after dinner. That was the best moment of the day as i had the opportunity to know a lot of aspects of your life. Moreover she was an excellent chef .. i especially remember the baked salmon  with pasta and potatoes.. delicious!.  We could share our thoughts, beliefs, stories…  She was very proud of the three boys .. her face changed when she talked about them .   Then i realized there was a strong connection between my family and yours even sharing very important aspects such as religous beliefs.

I also remember she was reallly interested in making the “Camino de Santiago”. I suppose she couldnt. So… it would be nice if all of you make it one day. I’m sure she will be very happy if you make his wish come true!!!.

After my stay in Vancouver, we were exchanging some emails. I told her what i was doing, my trips, my pictures… After reading Kathie’s history i understand now why she loved that pictures (if memory serves me right she studied tourism).

I fell sad and devastated. She was very active and clever woman. I can’t imagine her with that terrible illness. She was too Young and she didnt deserve it!!!. At least I hope she didnt suffer too much. That illness isnt only  bad for the pacient but also for the families.

I’ve read you are going to celebrate a Mass today at St Helens Parish. Because of the distance i cant accompany you but my thoughts and prayers will be with you and her. I’m sure she is in heaven with God.

I met Kathie thru a mutual friend.  She was the kindest sweetest person you could ever meet.  Both Kathie and I were bridesmaid and maid of honour at our friends.  We have been at functions together, her with her family… her kids are wonderful boys as well as Patrick.  She left this world far too young,.  My thoughts and prayers go out to her family. Kathie was in my class in Notre Dame. She was the first person I knew to venture out into the world as a young traveler. I have a fond memory of meeting up with her just before she headed off to Japan and she was so excited. It sounds like she had an interesting and fulfilling life as a travel agent, OT, and in raising a family. My condolences to her husband and children.

I was so sad to hear this unexpected news!

Kathie was such a beautiful person, always seeing the positive and beauty in people. She had the ability to make anyone feel comfortable with her calming voice.

It was a pleasure to work with her at Mediated Learning Academy, I will cherish the many times we chatted in the hallway, her office or by the photocopier.  She will never be forgotten.

I am saddened to hear about Kathies passing. I met Kathie during her time as an OT at Mediated Learning Academy. Kathie, a kind gentle lady who always had time for a chat and genuinely took an interest in you personally. My deepest condolences goes out to Kathies family


It was with great sadness that I learned of the passing.

Kathie was a valuable staff member and certainly was an integral part of setting up the school's OT department, especially  at a new school. She was knowledgeable and dedicated both to her profession and to the students. It was always a pleasure to see the warm relationships that she had with both staff and student.

She had a wonderful sense of humor and a warm and caring attitude. She will be sorely missed by everyone that knew her.

The school will be making a donation the the Alzheimer's Society in her name.

Chère marraine, 

C’est avec une grande tristesse que je t’écris ces quelques lignes, pour te rendre un dernier hommage. 

Patrick m’a dit récemment que tu avais toujours été très touchée que je te choisisse comme marraine alors que j’étais encore tout petit. Je ne me souviens plus de ce qui m’a poussé à te choisir mais il y a parfois des décisions qui paraissent évidentes et qu’on ne peut expliquer. 

J’aurais aimé que tu saches qu’avec du recul, c’était un super choix. Je garde de toi l’image d’une marraine très douce, attentionnée et aimante. Tu t’es toujours beaucoup intéressé à moi et tu me posais beaucoup de questions quand on se parlait au téléphone. Tu m’as toujours félicité pour mes succès et encouragé pour les différents moments de la vie. A chaque fois, tu étais positive et bienveillante et ça me faisait beaucoup de bien. Certaines personnes ont le pouvoir d’éclairer l’obscurité et tu en faisais partie. 

J’aurais aimé partager encore plus de moments avec toi, te présenter Charlène et Marley car je suis sûr que vous vous seriez beaucoup aimé aussi. J’espère que là où tu es, tu y trouveras le repos après ces derniers mois difficiles, et je suis sûr que tu continueras à veiller sur nous tous, comme tu l’as toujours fait. 

On dit que ce qui compte, ce ne sont pas les années qu’il y a eu dans une vie, mais la vie qu’il y a eu dans les années. Je me souviendrai toute ma vie de tous les moments qu’on a passé ensemble et je t’en remercie du fond du cœur. Je serai toujours fier que tu sois ma marraine et je t’aime très fort.

Papa vient de m’écrire pour nous annoncer le départ de Katie et nous voulions te dire que nous pensions très fort à toi et aux garçons.
Je regrette que nous n’ayons pas eu plus d’opportunités de nous voir mais je suis heureuse d’avoir pu vous rencontrer tous ensemble lors de votre passage à la Ciotat, il y a déjà 11ans.

J’espère que tu tiens le coup et que d’une certaine façon tu puisses être apaisée de la savoir désormais délivrée de cette situation difficile. C’est si triste, vous étiez si beaux mais votre amour j’en suis sure reste lui bien vivant.

Ich bin heute morgen mit meiner Mutter in die Kirche gegangen und habe nach dem Gottesdienst eine Kerze für Kathie angezündet. Ich konnte meine Trauer nicht verbergen und habe mehrere Minuten vor der Gottesmutter gestanden und an die vielen unvergesslichen Augenblicke mit Kathie und Euch gedacht.

Ich werde immer wieder daran erinnert, wie glücklich ich mich schätzen durfte, Kathie und Eure Welt kennengelernt zu haben. Ihr habt mich in den Monaten, als ich den Sprachkurs machte und auch all die anderen Gelegenheiten, als wir uns treffen durften, immer wieder spüren lassen, dass ich in Eurer Welt jederzeit willkommen und geschätzt werde. Ganz, ganz herzlichen Dank.

Ich wünsche Euch viel Kraft und Gottes Segen vor allem in den kommenden Tagen. Die Weihnachtstage werden wohl viele Erinnerungen wachrufen.

Denise hat mich gestern über Kathies Tod informiert und ich habe Euren Facebook-Eintrag daraufhin gelesen. Mir hat sehr gefallen, wie Kathie nun als Engel liebevoll aufgenommen wird und sie auf diese Weise mit Euch verbunden bleibt.

Meinen Weihnachtsgruss habe ich just einen Tag zuvor auf die Post gebracht.

 Dear Obergfell Family 

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your dear Kathy. I have so many good memories of working with her at the Mediated Learning Academy. She played such an instrumental role at getting the occupational therapy department at the school going and she remained so dedicated to learning as much as she could to improve the lives of every child she worked with. Her dedication was admirable. She was a colleague who will always be remembered for her hard work and ability to focus on the smallest details to ensure she did not miss a thing. She was a lifelong learner and was always looking for new opportunities to find new information that might make the difference for any child she journeyed with.  

I knew her as a dedicated mother and always wanted the best for her sons. I got to know Nick while he was at the school and Kathy always believed he would do wonderful things in life. Her close relationship with him was a testimony to her role as a dedicated mother. Nick I am so sorry that you and your brothers must cope with the loss of your dear mom. She was always so proud of you all. 

My prayers and thoughts surround you all during this very difficult time. I am sorry I cannot be there as I am currently out of the country. I will be thinking of you all on Friday. May dear Kathy rest in eternal peace.

Dear Patrick and boys

 

My sincere condolences to all of you.

Honestly, it took me a while to write these few words to you. I just can imagine how difficult times you are going through right now.

I felt extremely sad and devastated when your mail reached me last Friday early morning, while I was getting ready to go to church with my oldest daughter.

Having in mind that Kathie is not with us anymore I entered the church. As there was a special service this morning, 3800 candles were burning while the electric lights were out.

It was like a holy atmosphere, as Kathie would have probably loved as well in this wonderful church with all the lights. This special moment gave me comfort as I was able to share it with her.

Although, the time I spent with your family was not too long, I will always remember Kathie and your mom as one of the most adorable women I have ever met. She will always be in my memories.

 

God led Kathie rest in peace.

 

We wish you a lot of strength and courage for the days to come.
