Born on February 4, 1929, in Laopo San Village, Sanhe Town, Taishan County, Guangdong Province, China, Ken was the beloved son of the late Wing Chong Yue (d. 1965) and Mui Yue (d. 2002). He was predeceased by his devoted wife of 72 years, Mee Ying Yue (d. 2019).
Ken is lovingly remembered by his children: Kit (Owen Chan) of Vancouver, Shirley (Stanley Tam) of Abbotsford, and Jim (Deanna) of Vancouver. He was a proud grandfather to Christina (John Virtusio), David Chan, Nicola (Doug Tam), Katina (Mathieu Johnson), and Julianna Yue, and a cherished great-grandfather to Noah Virtusio and Sage Johnson.
At 22, Ken immigrated to Canada in 1951, leaving behind his wife, mother, and newborn daughter to join his father in Montréal. Determined to build a better future, he pursued engineering at McGill University while working tirelessly in the family business—often studying with a book in one hand and a clothing iron in the other. In 1957, he reunited with his family in Hong Kong, where he welcomed his second daughter.
Ken and his father later moved to Richmond, BC, where they founded Kings Foods in 1962. Once they were able to sponsor their family’s immigration, they were reunited in Canada. Ken and Mee Ying eventually settled in Vancouver, where they welcomed their son in 1966. Together, they worked at BC Packers in the 1970s until their retirement in the 1990s.
In retirement, Ken and Mee Ying enjoyed spending time with their close circle of friends, traveling, playing mahjong, badminton, exercising, and gathering over coffee. He had a deep love for food and was always eager to try new dishes, whether at home or dining out. He took great joy in sharing meals with family, often surprising them with dishes he had patiently mastered.
A devoted grandfather, Ken treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren, often accompanying them on vacations and creating cherished memories. Whether it was a road trip or a tropical adventure, he delighted in exploring new places with them. He was always present at their recitals, graduations, and sporting events, offering unwavering support and love.
Ken’s life was a testament to hard work, resilience, and generosity. He built a legacy of love, ensuring that future generations had the foundation to succeed. A gentle man of deep compassion and integrity, he touched the lives of many and will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him.
