Kwok-Fan (Kelvin) LAU, educator, artist, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a follower of Christ, was taken to be with the Lord in the morning of January 31, 2025. He has been blessed with a long, good life. He was a teachers’ teacher, having taught in all three colleges of education in Hong Kong at the time. In 1988, he retired from his teaching career and immigrated to Vancouver where he pursued his other interests and skills as a Chinese painter. Over the years in Vancouver, he created many paintings and taught Chinese painting and calligraphy. Kwok-Fan was also a very gifted writer and he volunteered as one of the editors of the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. newspaper for seniors, the Evergreen News. He was also a regular contributor of a column in the Chinese Sing Tao Daily News for several years.
Kwok-Fan found his faith in Jesus Christ in Hong Kong and was baptized into the Anglican Church in 1966. He continued to be active in church and was one of the original members of St. Matthias and St. Luke Church in Vancouver. He was a very respected and beloved member. He is survived by his loving wife of 74 years Shou Ling Margaret, daughters Amy Pow (Patrick), Zenia Cheng (Clarence), grandsons Trevor Cheng, Veryl Pow, Ian Cheng (Joanne), and great grandchildren Nathan Cheng and Noelle Cheng. He will be missed in this earthly world but his legacy will go on. One day we, the family, shall meet him again in our heavenly home.
Kwok-Fan’s funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 22, at 1 pm at Ocean View Funeral Home. Viewing will take place on Friday, February 21, between 4 to 6 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Kwok-Fan’s home church St. Matthias and St. Luke Church (www.smslchurch.ca) in his memory.
