Ladislav Gradecak

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ladislav (Laci) Gradecak, 87 years young, at VGH. Laci is survived by his wife Jadranka (Ada) , son Tom, daughter in-law Alanna, grandchildren Mia and Luca and family in Croatia, Italy and Germany. Laci was born in Zagreb, Croatia on May 24, 1927. He immigrated with Ada and Tom in 1974 in the hope to give his son 'a better life'. A true entrepreneur , he and Ada opened a toy store (Tommy's Children wear and Toys) in Kerrisdale and a European modern furniture store (Adlac) in South Granville. Laci also owned and operated a wholesale / retail business importing fine giftware from Germany as well as building some single family homes. Laci always had great taste and was ahead of his time. Retiring in 1987 he enjoyed watching tennis and was an ardent Canucks fan. He loved hosting dinner parties with Ada and was incredibly proud of his family. He will be forever grateful to all their amazing friends here in Vancouver and back in Europe. Prayers will be offered 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at the Croatian Catholic Church (3105 East 1st Avenue) where Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
