It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Lise Marie Gertrude Perkins (née Bouthillier) on Tuesday, October 14th at the age of 90. We thank all the staff at Point Grey Private Hospital for their incredible care over the last few years, and particularly in Lise’s final days. She leaves behind her sons Robert (Pia) and Michael, grandkids Julianna and Matthew, brother François, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Born on November 29, 1934, in the Montreal borough of Verdun to parents Thérèse and Ernest, Lise was the fifth of six children. While two of her siblings would go on to join the Church and enter monastic life, Lise looked west. Around 1954, Lise and her best friend made their way to Banff, finding work at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise as telephone switchboard operators. This is where she met her future husband Derek, who had also moved there for work with his best friend. Lise and Derek wed in Montreal in 1958 and split their early married years between Toronto, Montreal, and London, England, where, in 1961, their son Robert was born. Michael would follow in 1964 in Toronto. Eventually, they settled in Vancouver, where Lise worked for the District of North Vancouver and Derek worked for Dowco Consultants, an engineering firm. Derek passed away in September 1998 after a difficult battle with cancer.
The family takes comfort in the fact that Lise is reunited with the love of her life after 27 long years, as well as many other family members, including her parents, sisters Agnès and Gabrielle, and brothers Georges and Clément.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 25th at 12pm at St. Stephen's Parish (1360 24th St, North Van). This will be followed by a celebration of life at the Holiday Inn North Vancouver (700 Old Lillooet Rd, North Van). In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the North Shore Keep Well Society or Silver Harbour Seniors' Activity Centre.
