Lorraine Simpson of New Westminster passed unexpectedly, but peacefully, in her sleep on May 16, 2023 at the age of 80. She was born January 24, 1943 in Chatham, Ontario to William and Eleanor Smith.
Moving to New Westminster at 19 in search of better weather, she met the love of her life, Robert Simpson. They married in 1966 and remained married until his passing in 2001. Lorraine is survived by her son Bill (Tiffany) and grandchildren Tyler, Dylan, and Luke; daughter Jennifer (Gary) and grandchildren Ainsley and Sydney; son Rob (Stephanie) and grandchild Robbie; and daughter Shelley (Ron).
In the 1970s and 1980s she was a member of, and volunteered at, Queen’s Avenue United Church and was a member of the Mother’s Club. She was a loving, caring and giving person who spent several years caring for her in-laws and other elderly people in her community.
She loved being around and hearing about her family, traveling to Australia to visit her family and doting on her grandchildren. She enjoyed camping and the outdoors, reading books, talking with people and telling stories.
Later in life she developed a passion for watching golf. She was always willing to share her knowledge of it, regardless of whether you were interested. She was feisty, some might say stubborn, with an infectious laugh and a sense of humour as dangerous as her cane.
Her love for her family, her laugh, larger than life personality and ability to make others laugh will be sorely missed. Her family love her dearly and are deeply saddened by her sudden passing, but are comforted by the fact she passed peacefully without suffering.
