Lum Chu Loy

Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Lum Chu Loy, passed away suddenly but peacefully in his sleep on October 27, 2025. A gentle man with seemingly unlimited patience, he enjoyed a low profile and simple life, never in a hurry and taking the time to tend to his amazing vegetable garden (when he had one) or playing pool or mah jong with his friends. His happiest times, however, were seeing his family and cheering his favourite Vancouver Canucks team, not necessarily in order of preference.

Proud to be a Yellow Cab driver for decades, he had several regular customers who specifically requested him because of his kind interest in people, one time even driving a customer into the States and back on an overnight trip. In another instance, while chatting with a customer during a long drive to Hope, he discovered that his customer was on his way to film First Blood. "Never heard of you," Lum said to actor Sly Stallone. Lum treated everyone equally and wasn't impressed by fame or power.

His passing will leave a void in the hearts of his family and friends. To all who have phoned him and experienced his excitement upon hearing your greeting, may you remember his gruff voice and chuckle. And to all who have visited him and seen his pleasure upon seeing your face, may you remember his bright smile. May his memory be a blessing and, by his example, may we be inspired to inhabit the moment, relishing the simple things in life.

Lum will be fondly remembered by his wife Amy, his daughters Mimi (Tim) Lee and Gigi (Joel) Yuen, his sister Yee Fun Yim, sister Tina (Raymond) Wong, brother Tom (Marcy) Louie, and brother Danny (Dorothy) Louie, niece and nephews and other close family, and friends at Seton Villa. Goong Goong will be especially missed by his grandchildren Jared Lee, Kiana (Mathieu Prefontaine) Lee, Michaela (Mitch Friesen) Yuen, Tao Yuen, and Gabby Yuen.

Visitation will be held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, located at 3789 Royal Oak Ave, Burnaby, BC, V5G 3M1, Canada, on November 10, 2025, at 9:00 am, followed by a Celebration of Life at 10:00am.
