Maria Demare

Maria was born in Albi, Italy and immigrated to Canada at 21 years of age, making both the Trans-Atlantic and Trans-Canada journeys alone with her infant daughter to join her husband in Alberta. The family subsequently moved to Vancouver where her parents and brothers had re-located.

A dedicated and hard-working wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister and friend, she was a pillar of strength for all, giving selflessly to anyone who needed her help. Her work ethic was unmatched!

Maria was predeceased by her parents, Mariangela and Nicola Folino, her husband Salvatore (Sam) and her younger brothers Ralph and Frank Folino.

She is survived by her children, Marisa (Nick Gentile), Nick and Dave (Dorothy) and grandchildren Joseph, Sarah (Marco Cusano), Maria, Adam, Anthony and Christina as well as her great-granddaughters, Antea and Ellia Cusano. She will also be missed by her sisters-in-law, Mary Beth Folino and Ada Folino and her nieces, nephews and cousins here in Canada and Italy.

The Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church located at 555 Slocan Street in Vancouver.

The family is grateful for the respectful care that Maria received during her stay at the Belvedere Care Centre in Coquitlam. We are very thankful for the nurses and aides who saw to her needs during her almost four years in residence.
