Marie was predeceased by her loving husband of 65years, Walter Gunter Preissl, in 2020. Marie is survived by her five children: Al (Sarah), Pete (Gerda), Karen (Herman), John (Laurie), and Andy (Laura); 14 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; siblings Al (Ruby) and Rita; and nieces and nephew.
Marie was first and foremost a caregiver. A proud member of Stó:lō Nation (Leq'á:mel First Nation), Marie was one of the first indigenous registered nurses in western Canada. She trained at St. Paul's Hospital and worked at Burnaby for 27 years. She was also at the forefront of holistic healing as a teacher, active on the Therapeutic Touch Board, and a volunteer for HealthWatch after retirement. She was a card-carrying actor on stage and TV.
Marie was an avid supporter of family and friends; until her final days she could be seen gardening, teaching and taking online courses.
Marie and Walter traveled to over 40 countries and now are free to roam wherever they like.
Godspeed. We love you.
