Michael known to his family and friends as Misi was born in Gyor, Hungary in 1937.
He was one of two children to his parents, Mihaly and Erzsebet. His sister also named Erzsebet still resides in Hungary.
Misi was a student at Sopron University when the revolution broke out in October 1956. He along with numerous classmates and their professors decided to flee Hungary. They managed to escape and after many months as refugees received permission to come to Canada, specifically to Vancouver where the University of BC accepted the entire group of the Sopron Forestry faculty into their curriculum. Misi was one of the many students who received their degree in forestry.
He met his future wife, Erzsebet, and they got married in 1964. During their married life, Misi, in pursuing his career, worked in many small BC towns; Mahata River, Pt McNeil, Holberg, Victoria and finally, returning to Greater Vancouver. In his later career, Misi ran his own silvicultural surveying business for several years until retirement. In their Burnaby home, Misi and his wife Elizabeth raised three children, Michele, Michael and Andrew.
Misi was an active member of the Our Lady of Hungary Church and active parent with the Vancouver Hungarian Scouts. The Nagy family enjoyed many years vacationing at “Iharos”, a 40-acre property in Chilliwack where they and six other families were part owners.
Misi was a quiet, industrious, honest man who will be missed by all who knew him.
