It’s with great sadness that the family of Michele (Mike) Misceo announce his sudden passing on Wednesday August 26, 2020 at the age of 72. He is survived by his partner of 27 years Irene Cameron, his 3 children Sandra (Bill), Raffaele (Angela) and Enrico (Erin) and his 6 beloved grandchildren; Amelianna, Nicoletta, Dominic, Isabella, Marcus and Maddalena. Mike was born in Bitritto, Italy on May 14, 1948 to Raffaele and Santa Misceo. He was the second of 5 siblings; Vincenzo, Giuseppe, Teresa, and Nunnziata.
When he was 15 years old, He and his brother Vincenzo immigrated to Canada to live with their uncle Achille Bruno. Mike had a strong work ethic that he learned from his parents, and he applied it to everything he did. He studied karate for many years earning his second-degree black belt in Shotokan. He took a great deal of pride in the fact that he had the discipline and commitment it took to achieve such a distinction. He applied those same principles in his career and earned his red-seal certificate as a Carpenter. He joined the Carpenter’s Union and worked on countless highrise and infrastructure projects. He always enjoyed pointing out the buildings that he had worked on and told stories about those jobs. He was the proudest when he got to work with both of his sons, Raffaele and Enrico, on the Skytrain expansion projects. Anyone who worked with Mike, would tell you that he was always the hardest working man on the job site. Even later in his career, He consistently out worked men who were half his. Mike prided himself on being hard-working and instilled those same values in his kids.
As hard as Mike worked on his career, he worked even harder at home for his family. He built an amazing home in Richmond and worked tirelessly to make sure it was always a comfortable and welcoming place for his kids and grandkids to visit. He would never shy away from a project, no matter how big or complex. He built massive garages for his tools and even bigger greenhouses for his produce. Whenever he bought a new tool or new strain of tomato, he would have to build a special garage or greenhouse for it. Mike loved gardening and He was always proud of the things here grew, especially his Figs and Tomatoes. The only thing he loved more than growing his vegetables was giving them to the ones he loved. He would often pop in to visit his kids bringing giant boxes of figs, zucchinis, grapes and beans; often people would come to visit and leave with more food than they knew what to do with.
Despite his tough nature, Mike was one of the most generous and selfless men you could ever meet. Everything he did, he did for his family and He never counted the cost. He dedicated himself to building a better life, a better future for his kids and he never stopped working towards that goal. He demanded the best of himself in everything he did, and he expected the same from everyone around him too. He was the benchmark of strength and resolve. He made no excuses and had no time for regrets. He will be missed greatly and always remembered as a man who gave everything for the ones he loved.
