It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Miho 'Mike' Durkovich on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Burnaby General Hospital. Miho left us suddenly in his gentle way with quiet dignity. He was born on May 23, 1925 in Veli Do, Cavtat, Dubrovnik, Croatia. Miho is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Katica, daughters Catherine (Katija), Mary, Michele, grandchildren Amelia, Larissa, Andrew, Kiara, Julianna & Weston and son-in-law Fred. He also leaves behind his brother Jack (Doris) and their families with so many other extended family members in Canada, Croatia, U.S.A., Peru, Belgium and Australia. Predeceased by sister Kate, brothers Vlaho, Niko, George (Djuro) and cousin Vlaho. Miho immigrated to Canada in 1958. His passions were his family especially his grandchildren, his home which he completely rebuilt and his garden. Miho was very hard working, never idle and was blessed to be a 'Jack of all Trades'. In addition, he was a gifted chef ' he did it all! Miho was kind, generous, gracious ' accepting everyone, a good friend and neighbour, always offering to lend a helping hand. He was full of energy and had a zest for life saying 'If today is a bad day, tomorrow will be a much better day'. He took great delight in being a caring and loving husband, father and grandfather. His unconditional love, kindness and generosity will forever be remembered. To have, to love and then to part, is the greatest sorrow of one's heart. We love you forever and always. Prayers will be offered on Monday, October 18th at 8 p.m at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 555 South Slocan Street, Vancouver where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday October, 19th at 10 a.m. with Father Richard Bezzegato c.s. officiating. Interment to follow at Ocean View Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
