Mildred “Millie” Atkinson

April 28, 1931 – July 7, 2025

It is with deep love and sadness that the family of Mildred “Millie” Atkinson announces her peaceful passing in her sleep on July 7, 2025, at the age of 94.

She is predeceased by her loving husband, Hugh John Atkinson; survived by her children Joan (Dean), Bruce (Jeanne), Kimberley (Rob), Michael (Pat),by her grandchildren, Nadine (Peter), Nolan, Natasha (Malique), Brad, and her two great grandchildren (Ellie and Leo). She was also predeceased by her parents Edward (Emma) and by her siblings, Kurt (Ruth), her twin sister Winnie, and Rita (survived by brother-in-law Ron).

Millie was born on April 28, 1931, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Early in her career at the Royal Bank, she met the love of her life, Hugh. The two moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, where she would spend the rest of her life raising their loving family. A generous and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Millie’s greatest joy was her family.

Millie had a great sense of humour and a sharp mind. She was well known for her elegant sense of style, and her passion for interior decorating. She was also a passionate golfer, bridge player and scrabble player, where at age 94, she continued to beat her children at scrabble. She also had a lifelong love for her poodles—five in total over the years—with her last, Buddy, faithfully by her side for 14 years.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Aspira Astoria Retirement Residence in Port

Coquitlam, where Millie resided for the past 14 years.

Millie will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered for her grace and kindness by all who knew her.

At the family’s request, a private service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in Millie’s memory may be made to your local SPCA, animal rescue charity or Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
