Mona, Chun Tin Chan was born in the Hsin Hui County, Guangdong Province of China on January 19, 1944 to her parents, Yeung Suk Fong and Chan Cheung Ho. She had 7 brothers and sisters. She moved to Hong Kong at a young age with her family. During that time, she went through night school and became a bookkeeper at an age where women did not go to school. She relished her time working in the accounting department and made many lifelong friends along the way.
She married Tak Fung Tung in 1969 and moved to Ghana, Africa to be with him as he worked. There she had her 2 children, Viola and Victor. Her time in Ghana was spent lovingly raising her children. She was very talented culinary-wise, having to learn to make Chinese dishes from scratch in Ghana. She was extremely versatile and learnt to make the most of the resources available to provide the best for her family. She always took the opportunity to help the people around her, especially to get familiarizing with their new environment in Ghana. Many of her friends’ children would become her godchildren as she extended her love and care to them. Shortly after her children left for university, she opened a restaurant with a few of her friends and furthered her passion and enjoyment in providing delicious food.
She moved to Vancouver, Canada in 1995, where she spent the next 22 years to help raise and care for her first granddaughter. She was always focused on her family and would never hesitate to help when needed, especially when it came to her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking a variety of different cuisines for the family and ensuring that they had all the support they needed. She was the happiest helping her family and friends, especially when they enjoy her cooking.
She attended Westwood Alliance Church and was baptised on June 2015 when she confirmed her faith in the Lord. She enjoyed going to church weekly and meeting up with friends to do Tai Chi and fellowship.
Today, she is home and resting with the Lord in peace.
