Born in Shanghai on August 5, 1927, to Edwin Hing Wah Chan and May Ching Chan, Dr. Philip Po-Cheung Chan lived a life marked by faith, excellence, and deep devotion to others. He passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025, in Vancouver, the city he had called home since 1998.
A third-generation dentist, Philip graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1955 and returned to Hong Kong with his bride, Trudy, whom he met while studying in Philadelphia. Dentistry was not just his profession but his calling. For nearly four decades, he cared for generations of patients, earning a reputation as one of Hong Kong’s most respected dentists — admired for both the precision of his work and the compassion with which he practiced.
His life extended far beyond his clinic. A faithful Elder at Kowloon Tong Alliance Church, he quietly and consistently invested in others, founding and leading men’s Bible studies and guiding many to Christ. He was also the Director of the tennis program and facility at the Kowloon Tong Club, where his leadership, integrity, and kindness left a lasting impression.
Above all, Philip lived true to his compass: trust in God, love for his family, dedication to his work, and commitment to sharing the gospel. His days were anchored by quiet times with God, and his life reflected a steady, humble faith that touched countless lives.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Trudy; his sons, Barry, Ivan, and Byron; daughters-in-law Julie and Angela; grandchildren Corey, Emily, Timarie, Tessa, and Marcus, along with their spouses Abigail, Dennis, and Patrick; and his great-grandchildren Evangeline, Ada, Raya, Hazel (deceased, but dearly remembered), Pippa, and grandson on the way.
His greatest joy was his family, and his greatest strength was his faith. He lived each day grounded in a quiet trust in God, expressed through steadfast love for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Though he will be deeply missed, Philip’s legacy endures in the generations he nurtured, the lives he guided in faith, and the example he set of a life lived humbly, faithfully, and with enduring love.
