Ping passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 just short of her 85th birthday, She was predeceased by husband Kow "Ronald" Choy. She is survived by her sister Yut Fung Chan (Wai Wing); her loving children Shirley Chan (Kevin), Maurice (Margaret), Winnie Kung (Albert), Barry (Ellen), Ida Cheng (William), Bonnie Lam (Ken), Fred (Wei) and Kenny (Colleen); her adoring grandchildren Leslie Leung (Matthew), Marisa Seto (Will), Colin Choy, Matthew Chan (Annie), Alex Kung, Nickolas Cheng, Christopher Lam, Alexander Cheng, Jason Choy, Logan Chan, Thomas Cheng, Justin Lam, Kimberly Lam, and Audrey Choy; her great-grandchild Leah Seto.
Ping was born in Dong Guan, China in 1927. She was married to Kow Choy in Guang Zhou, China in 1947. Children followed quickly, with Shirley arriving in 1949. Shortly afterwards, the family moved to Hong Kong. The family was blessed with many kids - 7 more for a total of 8 (lucky). Opportunity beckoned from new lands and in 1975 the Choy family immigrated to Canada.
Ping was the glue that held the family together. She was a tireless and hard worker. Her smile was infectious and made life very easy for those around her. During her retirement years, she enjoyed gardening and took great pride in harvesting & sharing the many fruits and vegetables.
Family was very important to Ping. Over time, many of the grandchildren were in her care. She cherished family gatherings and showed her love through the preparation of many family meals. Family dinners, birthdays, cruises, and holidays will be remembered with great fondness by all. A lasting legacy is the family values that she passed to all.
Ping's passions were the family games of Mah Jong and adventures to the Casinos. She has always had a stroke of luck and many of times have come away with sizeable jackpots. This same stroke of luck has been passed to many of the kids.
Some of us - Matthew, Marisa & Alexander are away and not be able to attend. Their thoughts and wishes are here with us.
Words cannot express the loving support and kindness from all. A special thanks to the staff at St Paul's and Villa Cathay. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either organization.
In closing, I would like to leave everyone with this Chinese proverb:
"Mothers hold their children's hands for a short while, but their hearts forever."
