August 29, 1936- July 4, 2015
Po Man Wong was born in Guang Zhou near Hong Kong, the only boy in the family with 7 sisters. He met his future wife Tam Kit Ling while they were both teachers in Hong Kong.
A new and exciting chapter in his life began when at age 24 he boarded a ship to Vancouver. He juggled his studies at UBC while trying to support himself with many jobs. He was awarded his degree in Chemistry and later became a Professional Engineer (UK). His first post-graduate job was with Canada Tungsten in the Yukon and northern BC. In 1965, he sent for Kit Ling and they were married in Marathon, ON. They moved to Thunder Bay, ON where he began work at Great Lake Paper Products. He was Superintendent of Water Quality for 30 years, while raising two girls with Kit Ling. He sponsored many family members to join him in his chosen adopted country. After a few years of post-retirement consulting, he and Kit Ling moved to Surrey, BC so he would “never have to shovel snow again”. Family, friends and good food defined his later years. He delighted in the four grandchildren whom he never thought he would see and enjoyed socializing with many friends over dim sum and mah-jong games. Despite his health issues, he lived life to the fullest, inspired fierce loyalty in his friends and enjoyed the love of family. He will be remembered for his very generous heart, his ready smile, and for his optimistic outlook on life.
He will be missed greatly by his wife of 50 years, Kit Ling, daughters Anita & Bonnie, sons-in-law Edison & Emil, grandchildren Bethany, Jeremy, Annika & Charlotte, and sisters Sau Hing, Yuen Hing, Dixon, Mee Shan, Bixon, San San, Uson, & their families, step brother Kiu Lam & step-sister Po San.
