Raymond Kwok Ping Ko

Raymond Kwok Ping Ko departed peacefully in palliative care at Burnaby General hospital the afternoon of Thursday, June 20th, 2024, at the age of 77. He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Sui Ngan Ko; his children, Vivian and Gavin Ko; son-in-law Kevin Gooch; grandchildren Raymond and Charlotte Gooch; daughter-in-law Vi Ko; and grandchildren Kalia and Gemma Ko. He joins his parents and brother Desmond in heaven. He leaves behind his siblings Colby and Larry Ko and their families, as well as Susan and Janet Yen and multiple generations of grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and their children.

Raymond was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and beloved friend to all. Born on April 14th, 1947, in Hong Kong, he grew up on a farm and enjoyed a vibrant youth as a Boy Scout, camping enthusiast, and soccer lover. He immigrated to Vancouver, BC, Canada, in the early 1970s with his young bride. Continuing his passion for soccer, Raymond joined the Canadian American Asian League in 1970, forming lifelong friendships and playing the sport he loved well into his 60s.

An entrepreneur at heart, Raymond and his large extended family owned and operated small corner grocery stores in Vancouver, Burnaby, and Coquitlam. By the mid-1980s, he sold his store in Coquitlam and took on a managerial role at HY Louie Cash & Carry and became a part of the Grocers Association of B.C. The family then moved into the city of Vancouver, where he worked until his retirement.

Raymond was a beacon of light who cherished his family, especially his grandchildren. He encouraged his children to pursue happiness, take risks, and live life to the fullest. Known for his humor, Raymond considered himself rich not with money but with a life filled with love, laughter, friends, and family.
