Ron was born in Trail, BC, to Frank and Gwen Halifax and was raised in Fruitvale, BC. He passed away after a fall while he was out watering that darned lawn of his. After a brief time in the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
A proud Canadian, Ron served his country in the Canadian Navy and followed that service with a decades long career with the Vancouver Police Force – from walking the beat through the Motorcycle Squad and finishing up as a Detective with C.L.E.U.
While stationed in Victoria with the Navy, Ron met his beloved wife, Donalda, and for 54 years, they shared a full life. They moved to Vancouver in 1956 and Ron built the family home in Burnaby where they lived for the rest of their lives.
Predeceased by Donalda and his son, Ronnie, Ron is survived by son Bob (Charles), daughter Marilyn (Randy) and his adoring grandchildren Meaghan, Campbell and Melissa. His family was Ron’s greatest joy and his legacy lives on in their hearts.
Ron was a Master Mason, a Shriner, an Associate Guardian with Job’s Daughters and a long time active member with the VSPOA (VPD alumni), all demonstrating his commitment to community and service.
His adventurous spirit led him to travel the world, creating countless memories, with both the Navy and Donalda.
An avid sports fan, Ron had an unwavering passion for the Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Blue Jays. While he didn’t live to see the Canucks lift the Stanley Cup, he continued to cheer them on with enthusiasm and pride. Up until just a few years ago, you could still find him curling or on the golf course.
He loved riding motorcycles and was a member of both the Vancouver Police Motorcycle Drill Squad and the Shriner Motor Corps. He also loved his beer, was agreeable to the odd dram or two of Scotch and was known to cut quite a rug in his day.
Ron will be remembered for his wry sense of humour, integrity, strength and boundless love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home on Friday, August 16, at 1 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Covenant House or the Vancouver Police Foundation.
