Rosa Maria Pesce

In loving memory of a beautiful woman. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rosa Maria Pesce (nee Cavaleri) on September 9th, 2023, at the age of 79. Rosa was born on December 15, 1943, in Mammola, Reggio Calabria, Italia. She was the beloved wife of Mauro Pesce, and together, they raised two children: Liliana and Tina (Frank). Rosa was a compassionate and devoted mother, nonna and zia, who will be deeply missed by her five grandchildren: Michela, Marco, Mia, Michael and Matteo. Rosa leaves behind her caring brother, Tony (Maria), and was predeceased by her brothers, Cosimo (Stella), Nicodemo (Adriana) and Vittorio, as well as her parents Carmela and Salvatore Cavaleri.

When Rosa moved to East Vancouver, she began building fond memories of life as a new Canadian with her family, all united to create a chapter of new experiences together. Sadly, Rosa lost her mother at a young age. Rosa lovingly assumed the maternal role in her household, taking great care to look after her father and four brothers. As a wife, daughter, sister, mother, zia and nonna, Rosa never wavered from her sense of responsibility and devotion to ensuring that her family felt loved and looked after. Rosa loved and appreciated the strong connections and bonds she had with her sisters-in-law and brother-in-law from her big Pesce family. Zia Rosa’s cooking, baking, love of nieces, nephews and grandchildren, stories of family and childhood in Mammola along with her sweet voice, will be greatly missed.

Rosa’s genuine desire to care for others also extended to those she interacted with during her career as a bank teller. Even as a long time employee of the Bank of Montreal, Rosa supported her customers and colleagues, going above and beyond to ensure that people felt cared for and respected. We are grateful for the values she has instilled in her family and we will forever be grateful for her beautiful spirit. Rosa will be remembered as a supportive wife, dedicated mother, proud nonna, caring family member and friend to so many who were blessed to know her.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at Bell Burnaby Funeral Home, 4276 Hastings Street, Burnaby, BC on Thursday, September 14, 2023 6:30pm to 8:00pm, mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Helen’s Parish, 3860 Triumph Street, Burnaby, BC on Friday, September 15, 2023 at 1:00pm, Entombment will follow at the South Mausoleum, Ocean View Burial Park, Burnaby, BC.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a bank account set up under “Rosa Pesce’s Legacy,” at the Bank of Montreal. Rosa regularly dedicated to a variety of organizations. Her daughters will leave this account open until her birthday, December 15th, and then all donations will be distributed equally to Cancer, Cystic Fibrosis and Diabetes associations, as well as the Palliative Care unit at Burnaby General Hospital.
