It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rozalia "Rozi" Staresinic, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother on the evening of October 11, 2019. Our mom was surrounded by family and passed from the loving arms of her children into the loving arms of her beloved husband Frank who predeceased her in 2018. She would not have wanted it any other way. In addition to dad, our mom was predeceased by her mother and father, Marija & Mattija Malnaric, all 6 of her siblings, and all of her in-laws.
Left to mourn are her daughter, Maggie Basa (Vic), son Frank Staresinic, granddaughters Tanya Hartner (David) and Jennifer Basa Kazuta (Brandon) and her precious great-grandkids, Emmie and Cruz who could always put a smile on her face. In the last days of her illness mom knew the kids were there and we know that she got great comfort by the two of them holding her hand.
Our mom was born in Strekljevec, Slovenia on September 02, 1927, the youngest in her family.
On February 18, 1952 mom married the love of her life, Frank. In 1958 with her husband, two kids and two suitcases, mom immigrated to Vancouver but never forgot her Slovenian roots. Mom and dad truly had a beautiful love story and were so devoted to each other. Mom loved nothing more than making povitica and strudel and other Slovenian delicacies for her family as well as homemade noodles for her homemade soups. When one of us was sick Mom's homemade soups cured all illnesses. Mom and dad were active members of the Slovenian Society and loved to dance the night away to lively polka music. Going to the Slovenian Society dances made mom and dad relive the lively days of their youth.
Retirement brought numerous trips with family to Europe, the Caribbean, Disneyland, Disneyworld, the South Pacific and Mexico. Mom and dad loved their daily trips to McDonalds and Tim Hortons.
We would like to thank the staff at Willingdon Care Center for the loving care they gave mom in the last months of her life. During the course of mom's illness, we spent many hours there trying to give her the best quality of life that we could, even if that meant giving her a twinkie and cranberry juice for her evening snack while watching Wheel of Fortune. Mom never got over dad's passing and declined until she finally decided to join dad on the evening of October 11, 2019. We are grateful for the time we had with our mom and are happy that mom and dad are together again along with all of their parents and siblings. The accordions are playing in heaven and mom and dad are dancing to their music!! We love you mom, rest in peace.
