Ryder Ming Fai Chau, 83, of Vancouver, British Columbia, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025 at Villa Cathay Care Home in Vancouver. Ryder is survived by his wife, Lola; his oldest son, Kyle and his wife, Isabelle; and his youngest son, Bryan and his wife, Adelphie.
Ryder was born in Fiji in 1942; moving to Hong Kong in his teens and then, immigrating to Canada during the 70's. Soon after arriving in Vancouver, Ryder, Lola and young Kyle welcomed their newest member, Bryan.
Ryder worked tirelessly to provide for his immediate and extended family by doing various occupations from Diner Chef to Operator at a Lumbermill.
Ryder was an avid basketball player in his younger days but in his later years, he preferred to watch the NBA especially when the Grizzlies were based in Vancouver. Ryder loved fishing, particularly along the Stanley Park Waterways. He was a very stoic man and his actions often spoke louder than words; He would be the first to help his family and friends.
Ryder will be remembered for his generous spirit, for his love of languages, and the greasy Chinese Food he loved to make."
