We are so saddened to announce the death of our Dad, Salvador Hidalgo Lopez 84. He was born on the 4th of July 1938 in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental and grew up in Tondo, Manila, The Commonwealth of the Philippines.
He emigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in the early 1970’s and then moved to Vancouver, B.C. and raised his family in the Grandview/Commercial Drive area.
“Sal” proudly worked for CN, first as a coach cleaner and then as a carman and retired in 1999. When he wasn’t working overtime at Main Yard or Lynn Creek he loved fishing for smelt at Stanley Park and crabbing all the local docks from Barnet to Cates Park.
In his retirement he spent his time grabbing a seniors coffee and reading a newspaper at McDonald’s Brentwood Mall, travelling and looking after his grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife Marieta and will be dearly missed by all of his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all his family in Canada and in the Philippines. He was loved and admired by all of us who knew him and his generosity and kind spirit will never be forgotten.
The Lopez Family would like to thank Dr. Barzelai, all the staff at Three Links and the St. Paul’s Hemodialysis Team for all their hard work and care for our Dad the past few years.
Rest easy now Tatay, feel no more pain. Kami nalang bahala…
