

Sau Hung was predeceased by her husband, Ming Yat. She is survived by her three daughters, Susan (Kelvin), Lisa, and Judy (David); her grandchildren Jaime, Jordan, William, Alex, and Sam; and her siblings Yim Hung Jang, Fu Cheng Zheng (Giong Ghu Tang), Fu Wing Zheng.
Born in Enping, China, Ma will be remembered for her bright smile, wisdom, frankness and indomitable spirit. She was a true warrior, fleeing China during the Communist Cultural Revolution to Hong Kong, where she met and married her husband, Ming Yat. In search of a better life for their young family, they immigrated to Canada and settled in Ladysmith, BC where they joined her sister and her sister’s family.
Sau Hung faced the challenges of a new country, language, and culture with characteristic determination. She worked tirelessly in the restaurant industry to help support her family and their hard work paid off when they purchased their first house in Nanaimo.
She lived a life filled with grace, dignity, generosity, kindness and compassion. Her love and dedication to her family were unwavering. More than anything, she valued her family, and her greatest joy and pride were her grandchildren. She expressed her love through her fabulous cooking and delighted in family gatherings where everyone enjoyed a meal together. Her legacy will be one of devotion and love. She will be profoundly missed.
The family extends their gratitude to Evangeline, Eva, Drs. E. Rogers and N. Parmar, Nurse Next Door staff and Home Support Workers, VCH Home Support team, and the VCH Palliative Care team for the wonderful care they provided.
A funeral service will be held at Ocean View Funeral Home, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby on Thursday, November 28 at 12pm. Visitation will be November 27 from 7pm – 8:30pm.
