It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Segismundo (Ed) Gayo on February 19, 2024, in Vancouver, British Columbia. He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife (Rosalina), daughter (Marilou) and grandson (Brennan). He leaves behind 4 children: Esmeralda (Michael), Thelma (Charles), Myrna (Alvan), Rosmundo (Lina); 6 grandchildren: Daniel (Nicole), Leanne (Oswald), Andrea (Roger), Stephen (Becky), Melanie (Yves), Krista (Sheneel), Rylan, and Lynnea; and 5 great grandchildren: Brennan, Evelyn, Naiden, Elayna and Orion.
Born in Agoo, La Union, Ed was a teacher in the Philippines, and successfully acquired a teaching position in Fort Assiniboine, Alberta as an elementary teacher. He arrived in Edmonton, Alberta in 1968. Once settled, he brought his wife, Rose, and four children, Esmie, Thelma, Myrna and Rosmundo to Edmonton in 1970. He upgraded his credentials and received his professional teaching certificate in 1974 from the University of Alberta. Once retired from teaching, he returned to school and acquired his boiler certificate. He remained in the school environment by working as a head custodian and boiler technician.
Ed and Rose enjoyed fishing on ice, boat and shore in all seasons. They also shared a passion for gardening. Ed planted many fruit trees, grew robust vegetables, and enjoyed watching his wife's flower garden.
Ed was also a gifted artist, and like his father, drew pictures beautifully, painted in oil and acrylic, and created clay sculptures. His ability and mental acquisitiveness to new technology is praise worthy. His thirst for knowledge and curiosity allowed him to use the most current cell phones and laptop until his late 80s.
Ed was well respected by his colleagues and friends. He was industrious, meticulous, and took pride in his work. He enjoyed dancing at parties, and always had great sense of humor. He was always praised for his beautiful penmanship, clean and detailed work, and ability to get along with others.
We are very proud and thankful for both our parents. For their sacrifices, encouragement and love, we are truly lucky and grateful.
