Show Jan Jung passed away on March 8, 2025 at Burnaby Hospital at the age of 89 after her health had been in decline for a couple of years.
She is survived by her children, David and Susan.
She was a child in Japanese occupied China where she learned to cherish every morsel of food you could get. In her later life, this would manifest itself when she would encourage her children to always finish whatever food was put in front of them.
She remembered pictures of Chiang Kai-shek in her classrooms as a child before the communist revolution in China when her and her family managed to make it Hong Kong where she grew up. She had a turbulent time there as they dealt with a sibling with addiction problems.
She moved to Canada in 1962 to start a family. Like many immigrants, she didn’t have hobbies and she didn’t take vacations. She worked. She worked so that her children would have opportunities that she never did. It was only later in life that vacations came into her life, but that seemed to be more for her children than for herself.
She made sure her children never missed a meal, always had warm clothing, and a roof under their heads. These are not things to be taken for granted.
