Lindsay is survived and will be missed by his wife Catherine, his sister Hilda, his children Stephen, Alan, Marie and Kevin, his daughters-in-law Manon and Sara, and his grandchildren Jonathan, Elizabeth, Ben, Peter and Lauren.
Lindsay was born in Wellington, New Zealand in 1939 to Annie (Ryan) and Stephen McDonnell. He met Catherine (O'Malley) in the U.K. and they married in London in 1964. Lindsay and Catherine came to Canada the following year and started their family.
Lindsay was a teacher for nearly 40 years, teaching in New Zealand, the UK, the NWT, and Burnaby. He helped get many students through math and took great delight in it!
Lindsay was fascinated with trains his entire life. Soon after moving to Canada he discovered the British Columbia Society of Model Engineers. He became a life-long member and was instrumental in the building of the Burnaby Central Railway. He will be remembered for his contributions to the world-wide hobby of model engineering.
We would like to thank the staff at St. John Hospice, UBC for their wonderful care in the last months of his life. We would also like to thank the nurses at Raven Song Community Health and his longtime family doctor, Dr. John Rideout of Burnaby.
