

SUNG LAI LAU (1941-2012) also known as Jun Hua Lau, who was born in Nanhai, Guangdong, China. His father graduated from Guangzhou Huangpu Military Academy, he taught his sons to start music lessons at a young age. Jun Hua Lau was proficient in playing all kinds of musical instruments; he was in the Guangdong Music and Opera Group, which he belonged to for more than thirty years. This included Cantonese Opera, Music, folk art etc. He had performed in the important music celebration[The first Guangzhou City Music Fair] while working in Guangdong Music and Opera Groups. He also went to Beijing to participate in the exchange of music performances on behalf of Cantonese music, he was invited to join the TV stations in China and Hong Kong, Macao and other places. (Zhou Ma) in playing the xylophone had been receiving rave reviews.
Jun Hua immigrated to Vancouver in 1991. He taught at the music society, opened the ADVANCE GUANGDONG MUSIC ACADEMY INC. in 1994. He taught the singing of Cantonese opera, music and drums, paid attention to training personnel, expanded the art of Cantonese opera. Mr. Lau loved music very much and was full of earnestness in art. Most of his students are receiving good reviews; many of them have successfully held public concerts.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Ping Zhen Zhou, his daughter Joey, his son Yuzhao, and four grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his family, students and friends.
Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at 10:30 am in Forest Lawn Funeral Home and cremation to follow. Ground inurnment will be held Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 12:30 pm in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
