AVIS DE DÉCÈS

Mr. Sunny Kit Sheung Wong

25 décembre 1937 – 2 novembre 2022
Avis de décès de Mr. Sunny Kit Sheung Wong
AUX SOINS DE

Forest Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Park

Wong Kit Sheung, well known by his family and friends as “Sunny”, sadly passed away on the morning of November 2, 2022. He was at home comfortably and in the company of his loving wife of 62 years, Helen, on the morning of his passing. He is survived by his dear Helen, his three children, Winston (Daisy), Stella (Spencer), and Jennifer (Paul), and five grandchildren, Devin, Daniel, Austin, Jocelyn, and Paris. A private funeral service will be held at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Burnaby, at 1:00pm on Wednesday, November 16, 2022.

Sunny was born on Christmas Day in 1937 in Toishan, Guangdong Province, China. In 1949, as a young boy he immigrated to Vancouver with his mother, Wong Yee Shee, to reunite with his father, Wong Fook Leong, who had made his way to Vancouver many years prior. Sunny travelled back to China after a decade and married his wife, Helen, in Hong Kong on August 18, 1960. They came back to Vancouver together shortly after to begin a life together. Sunny spent the early years of his life working hard as a pattern cutter at Surrey Classics garment factory in the early 1970s before finding a job with Canada Post in the late 70s. He then worked as a mail sorting clerk for over 20 years before retiring in 1998. He worked very hard to provide more than enough for his family, and always ensured his children got the education and experiences they needed growing up.

Post-retirement, Sunny and Helen fell in love with cruise ship escapades and enjoyed spending time travelling to places such as Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, and California along the open ocean. He also cherished his trips back to China and always stayed grounded to his cultural roots. Some of his favourite past-times included going to Chinatown in Vancouver to play Mahjong with his friends, hanging out at McDonalds, reading the Vancouver Sun/Province, keeping up with the local sports teams, and spending time with his beloved family. He was always very generous in treating both his friends and family to dinner on so many occasions, and it always brought him genuine joy.

In the last year and a half of his life while struggling with his declining health, he not only managed to maintain his independence and kept his memory intact, but also continued to host family dinners out in restaurants and kept everyone in his family coming together until the end. A generous and humble man to the core, he was the happiest when he was making those around him happy, and he always surely succeeded.
