It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Vincenzo Lucarino. He passed away peacefully at Mount Saint Joseph's Hospital with his entire family at his side. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Teresa and will be deeply missed by his daughters, Marlene (Bernardino), Mary (Tony) and Sandra (Steven). He will forever live in the hearts of his grandchildren, Michael and girlfriend Carmela Luongo, Robert and Amanda who were the greatest joy in his life. Also left to mourn are his sister Maria (Frank), his brother Joe (Rosalie) and his sister-in-law Maria as well as many nieces and nephews in Canada, Argentina, Italy, France and China. Vincenzo was born to Felice and Nunziata Lucarino in Civitanova del Sannio, Italy on May 21st 1921. Life was difficult enough in the 1930's when, at the age of 15, he tragically lost both his parents to illness. He assisted his 2 older brothers in bringing up his 4 younger siblings before being enrolled in the military service and serving World War II. After the war, times were difficult and, as was his character, he began to look for an alternative way of life. The coal mine industry was thriving and he seized the opportunity to move to Belgium and worked in a coal mine. He immigrated to Canada in 1952 where he met and married Teresa in 1956. They raised 3 beautiful daughters who he was extremely proud of. His brother Joe joined him in 1954 and together they formed their own landscaping company, Brothers Tree Service. With no education and little command of the English language they built their company into a successful business before retiring in 1983. Vincenzo is best known for his love of family, fishing and his garden. Nothing made him happier than family gatherings where he could share his many stories of the '˜old country' with his grandchildren. Our family would like to thank Dr. Frank Canderle and Dr. Tharwat Fera for their many years of care and compassion, as well as our parents' caregivers, Zenilyn and Lalaine for their endless support. We would also like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Acute Care Unit at Mount Saint Joseph's Hospital, who ensured his last hours were comfortable and peaceful. Prayers will be offered on Wednesday, May 7th 2014 at 8:00 p.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday May 8th 2014 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church 555 S. Slocan St. Vancouver, BC. Entombment will follow at the South Mausoleum, Ocean View Burial Park 4000 Imperial St. Burnaby, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Lung Association or BC Children's Hospital. On line condolences can be offered at www.bellburnaby.com.
