It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Walton Sai Wing Yuen (袁世榮) on January 30, 2024. Walton was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and was highly regarded by those who knew him as a gentle, thoughtful and generous man. He is survived by his wife Pauline; daughters Karen (son-in-law Alan) and Kate; and grandchildren Madeleine and Ian.
Walton was born and raised in Hong Kong. He attended Ying Wah Boys Secondary School, and had further studies of English and French at night schools. He worked as a clerk at a government department for a few years before starting his teaching career in 1963. He worked at the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Schools as an English teacher and Assistant Master until 1997. He was greatly admired by his colleagues and students for his dedication to his job and his genuine care for his students.
Walton was also well known to be a devoted family man. He took great care of his mother and siblings, and made it his mission to teach his daughters important life lessons and values, and to provide them with the best education he could afford. He moved with his wife to Richmond, Canada in 1997 to enjoy retirement. In his retired life, Walton enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing mahjong, practicing tai chi, singing, and listening to music. He also served a few years on his townhouse strata council.
Even though we are deeply saddened by Walton's departure, we rejoice in the fact that he is now in heaven with Jesus. Walton accepted Christ as his savior a few years ago, and was baptized on January 16, 2024.
A visitation for Walton will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Ocean View Funeral Home on 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby.
