Yan-Lin, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, was the pillar of our family. Her life embodied love, strength, courage, and generosity, touching the hearts of all who knew her.
Born in Tuen Mun, Hong Kong, Yan-Lin was the second daughter in a family of five siblings. Despite the hardships of war and the Japanese occupation, she persevered. Though she only had three years of formal education, she was an amiable optimist with amazing mental math skills and a strong business sense.
At age 19, Yan-Lin married her late husband, Hung Chiu. While running her own business, she supported her husband’s fishery shops and cared for her children with endless energy. Yan-Lin immigrated to Vancouver 47 years ago. With little financial resources, she uprooted her entire family in search for the betterment of her children’s future. Her selfless sacrifice as a mother cannot be measured. Yan-Lin embraced Canadian culture and later retired from her fish processing job, enjoying her retirement surrounded by family and often expressing gratitude for the Lord’s abundant blessings.
In 2012, Yan-Lin was baptized and became a Christian. She regularly participated in church senior groups, finding joy in their fellowship.
Her devotion to family was unwavering and she was the rock upon which our family was built, providing support, love, and wisdom. The memories we shared as a family will be etched in our hearts, shaping our lives.
She is survived by her five children, Wayne, Godwin, Winnie, Grace, Yvonne, and their spouses. She leaves behind 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and the memory of a predeceased grandchild. Her legacy of love and strength lives on in our hearts.

In Loving Memory...
Yan-Lin, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to so many, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2023, at Saint Michael’s Senior Care Home, Burnaby, BC, at the blessed Age of 95.
She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by all her family members. She is survived by her 5 children, sons: Wayne and Godwin, daughters: Winnie, Grace, Yvonne and their spouses. She has 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and the memory of a predeceased grandchild.
Yan-Lin was the matriarch and the rock of the family. She was truly a remarkable woman who embodied strength, courage and generosity, who touched the lives of so many that have met her.
Yan-Lin was married to Mr. Hung Chiu at age 19. She not only was running her own business, but she also supported her husband in wholesale fishery shops and cared for the children with endless energy.
In the 70’s, she took time to explore different countries, namely England and Canada in search of the best place for her children to be educated and to have opportunities to flourish. Everything Yan-Lin did was thoroughly thought out and planned for the good of others. In 1976, she and her husband immigrated to Vancouver with little financial resources, uprooted her entire family in search for the betterment of her children’s future. A mother’s sacrifice is a selfless act which cannot be measured. Yan-Lin worked hard and immersed in Canadian culture, later retired from her work as fish processing worker and enjoyed retirement with family. She was often thankful for the Lord’s abundant blessings.
Her devotion to family was unwavering and she was the rock upon which our family was built, providing support, love, and wisdom. Her legacy can be clearly seen as she passed many of her traits of determination, courage, generosity and kindness onto her children and grandchildren who all are well educated with college and university degrees and with various successful careers. Most of all, the memories we shared as a family will be etched in our hearts, shaping our lives.
"I am the resurrection, and the life...whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die." John 11:25-26
