

Angela POON YUNG Ying-Wor was the first of ten children born to YUNG Kai-Chit and WONG Yin-Ching, originally of Zhongshan in Guangdong, China. Though born in Shanghai, she attended school and trained as a nurse in the provincial capital of Guangzhou. She met her husband POON Kai-Tai while working as a nurse in Hong Kong after the Second World War and they were married in Taiwan in March, 1955. They have three sons - Herman born in 1956 in Taipei, followed by Hiron and Hedwig born in 1958 and 1966 respectively in Hong Kong. In 1975 the family immigrated to Vancouver where she worked till retirement before her 60th birthday. Later, when grandpa worked for several years in Hong Kong in the 1990's, she had the opportunity to visit her brother's family in Perth, Australia.
Grandma had a cheerful personality, always smiling and caring. She loved food, both the eating and cooking of it. She also enjoyed knitting and playing hymns on her keyboard.
Her husband was the love of her life. They could be seen holding hands walking around Lansdowne and eating lunch at McDonald's. Since moving to Richmond 35 years ago, they have been attending Richmond Chinese Baptist Church where they were active members of the Seniors' Fellowship.
Due to advanced dementia, Angela spent the last 5 years at Rosewood Manor where she was lovingly cared for.
Mrs. Poon is survived by her husband of 69 years, her 3 sons, 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
