Kai Ko, 88, passed away on March 15, 2026. Born in Hong Kong, he moved to Canada in 1966, beginning a new chapter marked by determination and a deep sense of responsibility. He built a steady and successful career until the age of 76 in large commercial construction projects as a Professional Associate Quantity Surveyor. This profession led him to settle in Edmonton, Saskatoon, Vancouver, and eventually Richmond, where he and his family made their home. He had a hand in notable domestic projects like construction of Lonsdale quay, Canada line, and YVR. His career also took him on overseas adventures to Argentina, parts of China and Libya.
Kai was a man of few words—quiet, introspective, and unwavering in his actions. Providing for his family was always at the heart of his purpose, and he worked tirelessly to ensure they had what they needed. He appreciated the small pleasures of life, from the familiar routines that grounded his days with good food, especially the comforting dishes he loved most. He also cherished family vacations in Hawaii, a place that brought him relaxation and joy.
Kai is survived by his wife of 58 years, Eileen; his son, Ed (Shani); his daughter, Anita (Ian); his four beloved grandchildren—Brian, Tjammie, Kaitlin, and Kobe; and his extended family. They will remember him for his quiet strength, his dependability, work ethic and the life he built for them through decades of dedicated effort. Kai leaves behind a life well lived and a family well loved.
A celebration of his life will be held at Ocean View Funeral Home – 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby, BC, at 1:00PM on April 18, 2026.
