Yu Kau Chau passed away on December 26, 2023 at the age of 83 at her care home in Vancouver. She is survived by her three children, Allan, Albert and Anita, their spouses, Tomoko, Kathryn, Alexie, and her grandchildren Marisa, Emily, Adam, Ryker, Bethany, Casper and Emerson.
Yu Kau was born on November 25th, 1940 in Kaiping, China. She was the 6th of 9 children. In 1958, she married Patrick Chau, and later moved to Hong Kong where they settled for a few years and had 2 sons, Allan and Albert.
In March of 1969, they made the brave move to immigrate to Canada and began a new chapter for their young family. They briefly lived in Chetwynd with her older sister and family, before settling in Vancouver and having their third child, Anita.
Yu Kau was immensely hardworking and resourceful. She worked tirelessly as a seamstress, at times juggling 2 jobs or bringing work home, in order to give her children the best opportunities possible. In her downtime, she cherished spending time with her sisters, gardening, playing mahjong, and after retirement, helping to raise her grandchildren, trying her luck at the casino, and cooking for our family dinner tradition on Sundays.
She devoted herself to establishing a good life in Canada for her family, and they are so proud to have had her as their Mother and Grandmother.
