Bonnie Jo Shewski

Bonnie Jo Newton Eimann Shewski, age 85, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2016 in Dallas, Texas. She was born on August 19, 1930, in Bertram, Texas, to Raymond Joseph and Bonnie A. McFarlin Newton. Bonnie enjoyed growing up in Bertram. After graduating high school, she attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1950 where she was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority.

Bonnie began her teaching career in Midland, Texas. On August 8, 1953, Bonnie married Gilbert Eimann, a marriage which lasted until his death in 1998. Bonnie, Gilbert, and their young son David moved to the Lake Highlands area of Dallas in 1963. She continued her teaching career by joining the Garland I.S.D. as a first grade teacher at Caldwell Elementary School. Bonnie taught and mentored many children over the years. She loved teaching as much as she loved her dogs. In 1993, she retired from Garland I.S.D. Bonnie was a member of Lake Highlands United Methodist Church. On December 6, 2008, she married Joseph A. Shewski, and together they enjoyed hosting bridge parties and taking cruises. She enjoyed her friends in book club and playing bridge games for hours.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, by her first husband Gilbert and her beloved son David. She will be remembered for her devotion to friends, her love of animals, her sense of humor and her fun-loving spirit. The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to her dear friends and caregivers for their loving care during her illness.

Survivors include Joseph A. Shewski; his sons and daughters and their spouses; Joe’s grandchildren; Bonnie’s daughter-in-law, Pamela Eimann of Houston; as well as many nieces and cousins.

Graveside services will be held January 9, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at Bear Creek cemetery in Bertram, Texas, near her childhood home. A memorial service will be held at Lake Highlands United Methodist Church, 9015 Plano Road, Dallas, Texas at a date and time to be determined later.
