

Charles Terry Abercrombie Sr. “Ab” is now forever Home with the Lord. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, November 22, 2025, in Cypress, Texas at the age of 94. Ab was born in Childress, Texas on September 28, 1931 to Ferrell and Maurice Abercrombie.
Ab graduated from Childress High School in 1949. He was active in scouting and attained the rank of “Eagle Scout”. He belonged to an explorer scout troop called “The Boneheads”, enjoying many trips and making close, life-long friendships. He spoke often of the fond memories he had from this experience.
After attending Texas A & M from 1949 to 1950, he transferred to The University of Texas in 1950 and received his B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from UT in 1957. During those years he proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955; trained at Fort Bliss, El Paso, TX, specializing as an Advanced Artillery Fire Control System Mechanic; served at Camp Gordon Georgia and transitioned to the Army Reserve in Texas.
Ab met his beloved wife Cathy while attending UT. They were married in Vernon, Texas on March 8, 1958 and were blessed to share 67 beautiful years of marriage.
He spent many years with the Cities Service Oil Company as a Petroleum Engineer traveling from Vernon, Wichita Falls, Bridgeport, and Brownfield, Texas to Hobbs, New Mexico, Bartlesville, OK and Houston, Texas. Cathy and Ab established the Abercrombie Academy Private School in Houston and Spring, Texas in 1969. After selling their cherished school in 2010, Ab and Cathy retired to their ranch in Bertram, Texas.
Ab was a lifelong member of The Church of Christ and attended Childress Church of Christ, Childress, Texas, Bammel Road Church of Christ in Houston, Texas, Marble Falls Church of Christ, Marble Falls, Texas, and Oatmeal Church of Christ, Oatmeal, Texas.
He always enjoyed Texas Longhorn football, snow skiing, golfing, hunting, and reading everything! Most days he was found with The Wall Street Journal in hand. He was a proud supporter of the Republican Party, Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, Society of Petroleum Engineers, NRA, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch.
Ab was preceded in death by his Mother- Maurice Abercrombie, Father-Ferrell Abercrombie, and Sister Ann Patterson Miller. He is survived by his loving wife, Cathy Abercrombie; daughter Chris and husband Larry Bell, son Terry and wife Cathy Abercrombie; three grandchildren, Zachary Abercrombie and fiancée Jordyn Diamond, Rylie and husband Blake Barrett and Calie Bell; and one great grandson, Brooks Barrett.
Ab’s presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
