

Edward was born on July 4, 1931, in Vinton, Louisiana, to Edward S. and Laura Emily McElroy. He lived in Vinton until 1943, when his family moved to Port Arthur, Texas, where he attended high school and graduated. He later attended college at Texas A&M University.
Edward married the love of his life, Elizabeth Ann Montgomery, in 1952. They lived in Bellaire Tx, before retiring to Burnet, Tx. They shared 58 years of marriage until her passing in 2010.
As a young man in Vinton, Edward was part of a Boy Scout troop that was recruited by the Army Air Force in 1943 to be trained as airplane spotters, learning to identify both American and enemy aircraft. He later proudly served his country after being drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War, serving three and a half years in the Army Corps of Engineers and being stationed in England.
Edward spent his professional life working as an engineer in the Petrochemical industry, a career to which he was dedicated throughout his working years.
He was a wonderful father, husband and grandfather, deeply devoted to his family. Edward was actively involved in his children’s lives, coaching football, basketball, and baseball, and serving as a Boy Scout troop leader.
Edward’s favorite pastime was fishing, and he took every opportunity to enjoy it. He especially cherished his trips to Colorado with the guys, teaching his son and grandson to fish, which brought him great joy and lasting memories.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Edward S. McElroy and Laura Emily McElroy; his wife, Elizabeth Ann McElroy (2010); his daughter, Tamera Ann Moore (2015); and his sisters, Emma Louis Ramero and Laura Nell Frugé.
He is survived by his son, Jack A. McElroy and wife Lynda, of Hemphill, Texas; his daughter, Lori Garabieta and husband Inaki, of Cypress, Texas; his grandchildren, Jason E. Moore and Sara of Burnet, Kathryn “Katie” Moore of Houston, Kimothy “Kim” Dixon and husband Chris of Austin, and Donald Bret Meinscher and wife C.J. of Bronson, Texas; his great-grandchildren, James E. Moore of Burnet, Rilyn Elizabeth Moore of Round Rock, Alexus “Lexi” Hamilton and Alexander Hamilton of Burnet, Tx, Kayla Cummins and husband Zac of Lake Jackson, Courtney Meinscher of Beaumont, and Aaron Dixon of Austin; his great-great-grandchild, Sydney Cummins of Lake Jackson; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on January 27, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 306 E. Polk St., Burnet, Texas 78611, (512) 756-2222.
Funeral services will be held on January 28, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., also at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home.
Edward Marion McElroy will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his service to his country, and the steady presence he was to all who knew him.
