Erwin, most folks called him “Jiggs”, grew up in Llano, Bertram and Burnet where he was affiliated with the Baptist Church. Jiggs attended college at San Marcos at Southwest Texas State and resided in Watauga, Texas and retired from the Hurst Parks Department. He was a member of Hurst Masonic Lodge and Sons of the Republic of Texas having descended from Andrew Jackson Kent who died at the Battle of the Alamo. Jiggs was a life member of NRA (National Rifle Association) and donated his time working with the Big Brother program.
Jiggs enjoyed traveling, taking pictures, plants, birds, jokes, farm animals, family reunions, school reunions, bluegrass music, good friends and his letters and phone talks with his adopted cousin Ethel Patterson from Lafayette Indiana. He especially enjoyed the reunions in Bethel Community where his Grandparents, Great Grandparents and Great-Great Grandparent McCoy lived. Jiggs looked forward five days a week when his friends from Meals on Wheels came by. They not only brought him good food but also good friendship. Jiggs was a sentimental person and he still owned the little house that his Grand Mother Susie Smith lived in Bertram.
He is survived by his step- sister Nita Ann Naumann and husband David of Spicewood, and step-sister Patrica Earlene Hawkins of Granite Shoals. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. Erwin was preceded in death by his parents Audley and Juanita Smith, step-father Leroy Earl Patterson, one brother James Ray Kleen, one sister Audrey Suell Plew, one niece Kathy Elaine Kleen and one nephew James Audley Kleen,
