I accidentally ran across John's obit from 2014.  I'm so sorry to hear of his passing.  I worked with John in the early 90s at TCB and always found him funny and entertaining.  


John always led with compassion, honesty, fairness, great energy an a wonderful sense of humor.  My thoughts & prayers are with his family.

I was so sorry to hear about John's passing.  I worked with him in the 1980 and early 90s.  I always loved it when Deborah dropped him off at work, as they would be laughing and end the commute with a sweet kiss. I know those memories and many others will keep his family smiling as they remember him.

I am so saddened to hear of John's passing.  I was greatly blessed to work with John early in my career at TCB and upon my return to DARS-DBS.  I will remember his kindness and deep sensitivity, his sense of fun, his willingness to listen.  I am so sorry for your loss, and I hold you in my thoughts and prayers.

I've had the pleasure of knowing John since the 90's; he was such an integral part of my career in Rehabilitation at TCB, later DARS. Such a wonderful leader and was always full of life... Fond memories of my VR beginnings and again working with him in Austin a few years ago. Prayers for his family.

Deborah and Family, I am at a loss for words but filled with utter sadness over hearing the news of John's passing.  The beautiful words and pictures are wonderful testaments to a wonderful man.  I love you all and will keep you in my heart and prayers as you journey through this difficult time.

I had the pleasure of knowing John for about 10 years - in fact I thought his name was Johnnie and when I called him that he would always smile and say that was an endearing name to him.  He was indeed a kind man that cared about other people and what they were going through.  Genuine - that was one of his strongest characteristics!

Deborah and family, I was heartbroken to hear of John's passing. As you well know, he was blessed with a giant heart and a presence that shone so brightly for everyone to see.  He was kind and good, full of life and joy, and this physical world is diminished without him in it. I can only imagine how difficult this time of grief and sadness is for you and all those who loved him, but I'm sure he is not far away, and will watch over you always.

Deborah and family, my sincere condolences for your loss. John was a bright light in our TCB and DARS/DBS work family. His always happy demeanor and constant smile lifted the spirits of everyone around him. I am saddened that he has left us too soon.

John will be missed by all who knew him.  His devotion to his family was inspirational. At the end of of each week he do took time to have a chat, and his memory does shine in the hearts of all who knew, he is missed but he remains in our hearts.  The years spent being his assistant was a gift. Carry on and shine brightly as I will be gazing up at you John and many others too. My prayers to his family.

A smart, funny, kind, caring, man, who was such a joy to work with at the Texas Commission for the Blind and later at DARS, Division for Blind Services. John truly cared about providing first class services to the blind and visually impaired citizens of Texas and he will certainly be missed by so many. I knew John and Deborah in the early 70s when I worked at Austin State Hospital as the home ec teacher (Carol Higgs, then).  I have wonderful memories of those days!  I ran into John later while I was teaching at the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired for 29 years.  He was a good advocate for the blind and a great guy!

What sad news. As we celebrated John's retirement after dedicating so much of himself to helping others, I so hoped he would have many more years with his family, especially those great grandchildren. What a wonderful picture of him. So typical of John's warm smile every time I saw him over the past 25-plus years. Such a kind spirit.

My heart is deeply saddened to hear of John's passing away. As an upper level administrator for DARS/DBS I found John to be very genuine and gentle in his persona. He always found time to speak to me on his regional office visits or at agency conferences and inquire how things were going for me as a counselor.
