

Morris Arthur McDaniel, 76 left this world for a better place on Thursday February 28, 2013 in Bertram, Texas with his family at his side. Morris was born June 22, 1936, in the Shady Grove Community in Burnet County to Dan Clinton McDaniel and Margaret Estelle Piper.
As a young man Morris learned the Windmill trade from his father and was one of the few people in the Hill Country with this knowledge. Morris graduated from Bertram High School in 1954. Morris worked in the oil fields in West Texas during the late 1950’s; in the early 60s he worked throughout the states of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas installing telephone lines for Max Clark at B&B Pole Company based out of Mineral Wells, Texas. Mineral Wells is where he met and married Velva Jo Cline. Morris and Jo were united for 41 years and resided in Bertram since 1969 were they raised their girls.
After returning to Bertram he joined the Carpenters Union where he worked on several small and large construction projects in the Austin area. Morris was actively involved in his community serving as City Councilman, Volunteer Fireman, and Oatmeal Festival Board of Directors where he was one of the original founders. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and was known for his infamous BBQ.
Morris was preceded in death by his parents Dan and Estelle McDaniel; wife Velva Jo McDaniel; Sister Gail Coats; Brothers Bo and Richard McDaniel; step daughter Carolyn Reynolds; two step grandchildren and one great step grandchild.
Morris is survived by his girls Doris Gail Allen and husband Glynn and Sandra Kaye Hopkins and husband Ricky, both of Bertram, and Julie Pearson and husband Brian of Wisconsin; step-sons Joe Folwell and Ricky Folwell; brothers and sisters Alton, Vernelle, Buddy, Reta, Dixie, Aldeen and Jimmy; grandchildren Jennifer, Nicole, Lauren, Arthur, Christopher, Laura, Danielle, and Bria; great grandchildren Aiden, Gracie, Rylan, Regan, Mady, Amory, Dallas, Dakota, Baileigh and Madison and 13 step-grandchildren, 22 step-grandchildren, and numerous nieces , nephews and friends.
A memorial service in memory of Morris will be held Monday, March 4, 2013, at the Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home with Ed Schaffer officiating. Honorary Pallbearers named were Virgil Evans, Roy Keeling, Glenn Ringstaff, Ken Odiorne, Keith Smith, John Crutchfield and G.H.(Son) Turner.
