Now isn’t that a silly word, just say a summation. I burst forth on a rainy 4th of July, 1972. It was raining so hard the Dr couldn’t get to the Hospital using his usual route. Instead, he had to go around, the long way, and almost didn’t make it on time. You all know I have no patience…it had to be right then. Then, I left this life on August 10, 2013.
I was born into a loud loving family. My Mother is Cherryl Phillips and my Stepfather is Jack Phillips. My father is Gary Garrett and my Stepmother is Carol Garrett. But, here is where the real fun begins, there were siblings. First, Amanda Lee Cravey whose children are Jordan 16, Jessy 14, and J.D. 11 along with her 2 step kids Nick 13 and Chris 8. Next is Pamela Elizabeth Cravey ”Beth” Her children are Wesley 15, Brynner 12, and Amilee.11 Along with step brothers George Wayne and Jeffery Scott Phillips who has 2 girls and stepsister Sheila Ann. I also had step brother James Warren Phillips who preceded me in death.
I led a normal life here in Burnet: marched in the Band (Yea Dawgs), was in several one-act plays that I loved. Set my bedroom on fire with a magnifying glass and then graduated in 1991. I went to C.T.C in Killeen and studied nursing and became an R.N. Then, off to see the world…and off I went! I started by doing a stent in a small regional hospital, and then transitioned to a larger hospital. After that I became a travel nurse. I was able to go to California twice, Missouri, Oregon, and then Washington State. I also did transport overseas. However, it was Washington that hooked me, and this is where I fell in love with the Northwest. Even with all the fun and travel there were two of the most AMAZING things of my life that were waiting to happen.
First, my wife (at the time) and I had the most precious, loving, intelligent, beautiful baby girl in the world. We named her Sydney Masako Garrett. Now jump ahead 6 years or so, and a divorce later, the second most amazing thing of my life happened. By pure dumb luck I met the most loving, caring, BEAUTIFUL soul that ever walked the face of this earth. Jaime Beth Fineman, a transplant from Chicago, whom I call my soul mate. She has been there through the good times (she fell in the river with waders on trying to learn to Salmon fish.) Jaime would try anything I wanted to do. We went on a helicopter ride, I helped build sets for her plays (I forgot to tell you she is a teacher: high school drama, and English)...But more than that she has been there for the bad times, cancer, surgery, chemo, throwing up, diarrhea, radiation, and multiple hospital visits . Through all of this, Jaime found a way to give me the thing I needed most, love. If this cancer hadn’t taken me we would already be married. Life throws lots of curves.
As I have been thrown off this mortal coil and stand in Heaven; I will wait for you all just across Jordan. Please come join me on these streets of gold.
I leave behind a loving spouse Jaime Fineman, a daughter Sydney Garrett Mother and Step Father Cherryl and Jack Phillips a Father and Step Mother Gary and Carol Garrett. Two loving sisters, Amanda Ware and Beth Cravey. 5 Nephews: Wesley, Brynner, J.D., Nick and Chris. Also 4 nieces: Jordan, Jessy, Peyton, and Amilee.
Honorary Pall Bearers are: Wesley Shackelford, Brynner Shackelford, Stephen Chambers, Wayne Clendennen, Chris Clendennen, Bryan Garrett, Michael Fineman, Shaun Kremin, Steven Galatro, and Thomas Wegner.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Clements-Wilcox Chapel with Jay Paul Roy, Hill Country Fellowship Burnet Area Pastor officiating. Condolences may be offered to www.clementswilcoxburnet.com.
