Sharon grew up in Crane, Texas and graduated from Crane High School in 1966. She graduated Texas Tech University in 1970 earning a major in English, and a minor in Spanish. She was a proud member of the Texas Tech band where she played the trumpet.
Sharon lived many years in Austin working in the food industry. She later moved to Harper and worked in Fredericksburg in the food industry and as a managerial assistant at Gillespie County Fairgrounds. She greatly loved the quiet space and starlit skies of Harper.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents Gene and Edith Salyer. Sharon is survived by her sister Karen Bizzak of Burnet; nieces Jamie Calorossi and husband Joe of Trumble, Connecticut and Jessica Marie Bizzak of Austin and by nephew Jeff Bizzak and wife Katie of Canton, Michigan. Also surviving are great nieces Sofia and Eloise and great nephew Devin.
Though she never saw herself as an exceptional woman, Sharon excelled in many ways. She was a talented trumpet musician, and a voracious reader, drawing skills from the best in classical literature and poetry for her writing. Beyond academics, she excelled at tennis, and later, in softball. Her family and friends were astonished in her adult years by an amazing gift as an artist when she was encouraged by a special friend. Sharon learned to “see” in ways previously unknown to her. Perhaps her greatest gift in life was for others. She gave to others through her ability and willingness to listen to their stories with a compassionate and nonjudgemental heart. Sharon built relationships, relationships that endured over time and distance, relationships that made a difference.
The graveside service for Sharon will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, June 17 at the Crane County Cemetery in Crane. A time for visitation for family and friends will take place 30 minutes prior to the service.
