

Shorty grew up in Sterling City and later Burnet where she attended school and loved playing basketball. She graduated Burnet High School in 1961 and soon began her medical profession as an X-Ray Technician at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin. In about 1977 she moved back to the Buchanan Dam and Burnet area where she worked for many years at different doctors’ offices and medical clinics.
Shorty never really retired but in 2011 semi-retired to take more time being a caregiver to some close friends. Shorty loved life, her family, friends, and Joe Namath.
Survivors include her son Jay “Trey” Garrett and wife Sandy of Belton, 6 grandchildren, Kelli, Will, Cameron, Hunter, Chandler, and Gunner, and 2 great grandchildren Berklee and Tristan. Shorty is also survived by a brother Bill Ellis and his wife Cookie of Mineral Wells, and a sister Bonnie Gomez of Killeen. Also surviving are cousins, nieces, nephews, and many many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Sam, Leo Robbins, Jr., Ronnie Ellis.
A visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday evening, January 13 from 5 to 7 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet. The funeral service will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1 at the funeral home with Darrell Debo officiating. Interment will follow at the Hillsdale Cemetery near Izoro in Lampasas County.
