

Susan passed away at the Burnet home of her sisters, Sherry and Patricia, knowing she was surrounded by those who loved her most. Susan was born on May 5, 1953, the fourth child of John W. Morrey and Bonnie Belle Paxton Morrey of Austin. She graduated high school in 1971 as Valedictorian and obtained a Bachelor of Arts With Honest Honors from the University of Texas, Austin and acceptance into the Phi Betta Kappa honor society. Susan obtained the Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in May, 1978. She completed her Family Practice residency at John Peter Smith in Fort Worth in June 1981 and obtained board certifications in Family Practice and Emergency Medicine. She first served as a Family Practitioner in Fort Stockton, where she met and married Glenn E. Morris. She then practiced medicine in Breckenridge and then in Burnet where she also serviced as the Medical Director of the Burnet City EMS for 14 years. Susan left private practice in 1995 for employment with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and achieved numerous advancements until her retirement in 2020 as the Senior Medical Director of the Correctional Managed Care Operations.
Susan is survived by her son Glenn E. Morris, Jr and his wife Dorothea Wall Morris of Memphis, TN; her daughter Christine S. Morris Santos and granddaughters Annabelle and Susan Santos of Georgetown, brother John W. Morrey, III and his wife Marilyn W. Morrey of Mountain Rest, SC, and sisters Sherry J. Morrey and Patricia D. Painter of Burnet. Other family members include former husband Glenn E. Morris, Sr. of Burnet, stepdaughter Sheen Morris Maldonado and her family in Maryland and stepson Sean Morris.
A Celebration of Life memorial will be held at the home of Sherry and Patricia in early 2026. Friends wishing to honor Susan’s life-long dedication to the art of medicine can make a contribution to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, Memphis TN.
