Mr. Estes was born Aug.17, 1925, in Berkeley, Calif., and moved to Shasta County in 1936 from Corning. He was a rancher for 60years, was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a member of the Word of Life Assembly of God Church, a member of VFW Post 5689 in Burney, and a member of the Fort Crook Masonic Lodge 250. He is survived by his wife Charlotte Estes of Burney, sons Hop Estes of Chino, Jim Estes of Burney, Bill Estes of Happy Camp, daughter Becky Burgess of Weaverville, brother Hiram Estes of Redding, sisters Betty Everett of Redding, Rita Taylor of Redding, Margaret Schryver of McArthur, Trish Hathaway of Oak Run, 12 grandchildren, and 20-plus great grandchildren.
Funeral services for George Carson Estes Jr. of Burney are scheduled for Friday, 11 a.m., at the Word of Life Assembly of God in Burney. The Rev. Ken Frazier will officiate.
Mr. Estes died Sept. 13, 2010, at Mayers Memorial Hospital Burney Annex. He was 85.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 3-7 p.m. at McDonald’s Chapel in Burney. Burial will be at the Burney District Cemetery on Mountain View Road.
